Arts Consultancy: With a Masters Degree in the History of Art and three decades of practical experience in the art market, John is keen to work closely with art enthusiasts, collectors and artists offering advice in expanding their interests and knowledge through his wide range of professional connections.
Exhibition Curation: As founder and managing partner of Illustrationcupboard Gallery in St James's, London, John curated over twelve single-artist and group exhibitions every year for almost 30 years. Supporting young up-coming artists was a key element of the gallery's popularity, alongside a number of ground-breaking first exhibitions for globally famous artists such as Judith Kerr (The Tiger Who Came To Tea), Brian Wildsmith and Shirley Hughes among others. He also organised and oversaw travelling international exhibitions to Hong, Kong, Seoul, Japan and Australia. John can offer clients the benefit of his knowledge, skill and contacts to assist individual artists or groups to arrange and market successful events and exhibits in the buzzing arena of central London as well as internationally.
Sales and Acquisitions: Working closely with enthusiasts and collectors has always been a core interest. Assistance in acquiring artwork or dispersing collections, with guidance on where, when and how to sell, can be offered with efficiency and discretion.
Personal and Estate valuations: John has had extensive experience for many years in undertaking valuations of artwork and collections for artists, their estates and collectors. Work has been used to present to HM Revenue and Customs and The Arts Council, with applications for the Art in Lieu scheme, as well as other similar conduits.
Art and Gallery Services: With his dual role as a consultant specialist with the Art Advisory Group, and his own extensive contacts, John is able to assist clients with every aspect of art world management: from art storage, shipping, insurance, framing, mounting, restoration of artworks, and even listed historic houses, as well as conservation.
Editing, Proofing: John is able to assist individuals, groups and institutions with their marketing and publicity. He is experienced in copy-writing, proof-reading and editing, as well as advising on the marketing of exhibitions and events for clients.
